Facebook Facial Recognition Feature Will Notify You When You Appear in Someone's Picture

If you are very sensitive about how often you appear in pictures on the internet especially on Facebook, it may interest you to know that Facebook has a new privacy tool to help keep you safe online.

Facebook has a new privacy tool called Facial Recognition. It's Facebook's new technology that alert you to any photos in which you appear in regardless if you are being tagging or not.

In upcoming Facebook app update, you will have the feature to toggle on/off facial recognition alert. When you enable or turn on this feature, Facebook will notify you if they think they spot you in a photo.

You can view it to confirm and tag yourself, ignore it, report it, or message the poster to have words about the photo. Facebook still respects the privacy settings of people posting photos, so you won't get a notification for photos when you're not in the audience.

This same facial recognition feature is used for profile picture safety. Which means, soon or later, you'll be getting notifications if someone uses a photo of you as their profile photo. Since profile photos are public, you should always get a notification about this.

According to Facebook, the Facial Recognition feature will be available in your Facebook settings, but won't be available for users in Canada or the EU where Facebook does not offer facial recognition.
