Skype now supports Android devices running 4.0.3 and up
Recall in 2016 when Skype planned to discontinue its app on older versions of Android, iOS and windows phone platform. But now, it's the opposite.
The company in a blog post has announced a new version of Skype with optimizations for devices running Android 4.0.5 to 5.1. The app has been released but yet to roll out. According to the company, it will start rolling out in the next few days.
The new Skype app for older versions of Android is the Lite version of the regular app. It has been optimized, and doesn't consume RAM, memory as well as battery.
All these has been put together for a better speed and better audio and video quality on these lower end Android devices, as well as increased performance in challenging network conditions.
The new optimized Skype will be rolled out in the next few days, and would be made available to users around the world.
