Instagram Adds Green Dot Online Status to Profile Picture

Instagram is rolling out a new green thick dot icon that tells you when your friends are online and ready to chat via DM.

This feature is called Active Status, which is already available on Facebook, Messenger, Skype etc. Now, the feature is rolling out on Instagram.

Like we already know, when a friend is active or online, you will see a green thick dot next to the person's profile picture. This can be found in Instagram Direct inbox and your friend list when you share a post from feed.

You can easily hide your own status and prevent friends from seeing your online status by going to your Instagram settings, just like we have it on Skype, Messenger and WhatsApp.

Note that you will only see status for friends who follow you or people who you have chatted with in Direct. Also, if you hide your activity status, you won't be able to see other's activity status.
